OUR FAMILIES ARE HAVING A CONTEST

Our social workers play an important part in the ministry. We have learned over the years that working with children who have been removed from their families requires working back with biological family members. If nothing is done to work with both sides, the cycle is only repeated when and if children return to family. Honestly, it is probably the hardest part of our work, but so important.

Our social workers travel many days of the week to visit with family members in their home and helping steer families to resources needed to meet the goals they help create. Once a month, family members visit with the children on the farm. There is always time to enjoy each other, creating new memories, as well as participating in some planned activities. One of these planned activities is a learning time for the adults, which has become known as “Parent School.”

Recently, our families participated in a talk about taking care of the things they have by maintaining an organized and clean home. They created a contest to see who could make and sustain the greatest change in their home. Families were asked to take pictures or create a mini video to be sent to our social workers each week – a glimpse of before and after cleaning. The contest would last two months, with the hopes of creating new habits.

Many of the families have been participating, eager to send in their “proof” of hard work. Take a few minutes below to look at some of their pictures and join us in cheering our families on as they learn to work together to create better lives.
