MOTHER`S DAY

We are often reminded that our ministry doesn’t exist without brokenness and loss and a tangle of emotions. This past Saturday, a few moms, some aunts, grandmothers and even a few extended family members all came to La Casa for our Family Visitation Day. Our social workers and counselors had planned a special day to honor women in the lives of the children as a way to celebrate Mother’s Day. They had a devotion reflecting on different women talked about in the Bible.  Our staff, some of the children and even members from the team we had visiting provided opportunities for the ladies to get their hair cut or straightened or blow dried and to get their nails painted. A craft had been planned for families to do together, and everyone shared a special cake.

But what stood out even more to me as I watched the day unfold was the quiet stepping back that each of our house moms were able to do as they allowed time for the children’s relatives to be with the children. Often, that isn’t so easy when you walk alongside a child who is struggling with their past. It can be human nature to step in and always protect. There are times when that it is necessary, but to see our moms open space to cheer biological mothers, aunts and grandmothers on to healing and rebuilding healthy relationships was a beautiful thing to watch.

This month, we want to celebrate all of the women on staff, those who volunteer, those who serve on our board and advisory committees, and all those who selfishly give to help this ministry care for children and families. They each bring hope for very different futures.

Join us in celebrating every woman who reaches out to help raise children.
