TRAINING, ENCOURAGEMENT, AND RESTORATION

We live in a time when much information is available and research seems to be ongoing. Thus we, at La Casa, believe ongoing training is beneficial and neccessary to best do what we are called to do.

All of the children we serve have had traumatic pasts. This puts the brain into a defense mode, thus not talking, not feeling and not trusting becomes a way of protecting oneself. Continuously being intentional about the family environments we provide for the children requires knowledge, skills and compassion in order to provide safe, secure and loving places for the children to heal and grow.

This past week, we had team from GlobalX out of Atlanta, GA come alongside us and provide a week of training for our staff and the children. They worked with the children on regulatory skills. They poured into our tias, tíos, houseparents, social workers and counselors by providing mini conferences they entitled “Seeking Restoration.” They talked about secondary trauma, connecting with the children we serve, attachment styles, sexuality and communication. They ended their time together talking about practical ways to help children self-regulate. Our staff felt appreciated and heard. The practicality will make it easy to put into practice.

We are thankful for the way this team came with hearts to serve, pray for and encourage our staff. Thank you GlobalX!
