CELEBRATING NEW BEGINNINGS
End-of-the-year school activities are always exciting. The children look forward to days when they can sleep in, not have homework and enjoy the outdoors. But before all the “fun” began, we wanted to stop and reflect on what was accomplished in the school year.
Mr. Manuel, our Math teacher for Middle and High School, was our graduation speaker. He congratulated our graduates on the hard work they had put into reaching this milestone in their lives and for having run the race well.
Not all adolescents in El Salvador graduate from high school. As a matter of fact, only four out of every ten even attend school past the ninth grade and only half of those who do usually complete the requirements to earn their high school diploma. Our graduates have been examples to the other children in La Casa and their own families. They have been lights in this world.
Mr. Manuel went on to challenge them to keep those lights shining and to continue to run their race well. He reminded them that life doesn’t end at graduation and told them that they could carry that same commitment and willingness to be lights in this world as they step out into young adulthood and beyond.
We are very proud of all of the children for completing another year of studies and for their teachers who poured into each student. And we are celebrating with our three graduates as they each begin higher education studies: Tatiana, Alisson and William. Join in us in congratulating each of them!
