SERVING WITH JOY EVERY STEP OF THE WAY

Most of us take walking up stairs for granted. Our brains somehow know how high to lift our legs and where to place our feet to reach the next step. However, when we enter another culture, we can suddenly feel like the clumsy one. In El Salvador, the layout of the land often dictates the height of stairs, so they are not always uniform. That was the case with the steps leading up to the chapel area. Many of you have experienced that climb.

As we were concluding our project time on placing pavers up the hill to the chapel area, our focus for the teams shifted to the final climb up to the chapel. Sunnybrook arrived just as that part of the project was beginning and generously helped us dig the stairs, all with an eight-inch rise. Next time you visit the farm, you’ll be amazed at how easily you’ll climb those steps!

The week with a whole clan of college students was incredible. They were engaged in every aspect of the week’s agenda. They listened attentively, asked questions, and were encouraged to take time to reflect on what they were learning throughout the week. We often saw the team spread out with their Bibles and notebooks and pens, enjoying some personal quiet time.

The children couldn’t wait to engage in various activities after lunch each day, including playing ping-pong, tag, and tossing a ball around. Their game of soccer on Friday afternoon was particularly intense. We won’t embarrass the team by repeating the score that the children reported.
