A SPECIAL CELEBRATION FOR MARIA AND ANTONIO

This month, we celebrated the lives of two of our adolescents who have had special birthdays this year. Both Maria and Antonio turned fifteen – and turning fifteen in a Latin culture is a big deal.

For our special guests each year, they get to go looking for something special to wear for the ceremony. This year it was a surprise when they united after an afternoon of shopping to discover that they both had chosen the same color!

We used beautiful tropical flowers that were blooming on the farm for decorations on the tables in the pavillion area. One of our farm workers even cut flowers from his home and brought them to add, so everyone got involved in making the day special! Family members even came to join in the celebration.

Our housedad, Guillermo, worked with some of the children to plan a special time of worship. This was followed by another housedad, Tono, giving a reflection on Ephesians 2:10. We were all reminded that we are loved, valued and given a purpose in life by our Heavenly Father. Then, each adolescent’s houseparents shared some encouraging words to them.

One of the special traditions in La Casa is giving each a Bible of their own as a reminder that true wisdom is found in God’s Word.

No fifteenth birthday celebration would be complete without food. Our staff and children love tacos, so tacos, nachos, a yummy punch and cake were on the lunch menu for the day.

Join us in wishing Maria and Antonio a very special quinceaños! May God be the One they hold tight to through all of life ahead.

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
