SERVING WITH LOVE: A TIME OF HEALING AND CONNECTION

“I’m walking over to the clinic. You can come with me or stay here.” Reyes, a resilient widow known to many of our teams, decided to visit the medical clinic despite her struggles with diabetes and swollen ankles. She got herself ready, grabbed her cane and firmly told her daughter that  she was  headed out of the door. Her daughter was surprised to see her so cheerful, so off they went.

Last week, our neighbors were blessed by a medical team from My Father’s House International. They have been faithful for many years, serving the community around us through medical, dental and vision care. This year, they were joined for a few days by six members from the Krispin-Jacobs Foundation. Together, they learned about the needs in the community, visited many of the elderly and widows in their home and offered a medical clinic for two days.

The clinic saw around 200 people from the community. Local dentists provided cleanings, extractions, and fillings to 45 individuals. Vision screenings were conducted for 98 people, and glasses were provided as needed. It was heartwarming to see the excitement on the faces of those who could now read, thread a needle, or see the whiteboard in their classes. Almost everyone was seen by the local and team doctors who worked together. The team also had a pharmacist who filled prescriptions and distributed vitamins and over-the-counter medications. The common phrase we heard was, “Thank you, with times being hard, this is such a blessing for us.

We enjoyed talking with our neighbors, both old and new. For many, it was like seeing family. For others, it was nice meeting new families who have moved into the community. Lots of smiles, hugs, and greetings were exchanged as we caught up on each other’s lives. Building relationships with our neighbors is essential as we serve the children and reach out to those around us.

Thank you to everyone who came. It was a great week of learning and serving together!
