BRINGING LIKE INTERESTS TOGETHER TO LOVE AND SERVE 

God has given us gifts of interests, skills and talents. He can use each of those gifts to draw us closer to Him and to others – even take us on adventures around the world to see Him at work.

This past week, we had the privilege of partnering with a GlobalX team from Atlanta, Georgia to serve alongside our Equestrian Program. They signed up to be part of the team because of their interest and love of horses. This common thread bonded them together as they served and learned alongside staff and children at La Casa.

The children receive riding classes weekly. There are many benefits – teaching responsibility as they care for the horses they ride and building confidence as they manage a horse who is much larger than they are. They also learn how to recognize and control emotions as the horse mirrors their emotions. For many, the horses are a safe place to begin to trust again when all trust has been broken. Our therapeutic riding program has become an important part of many of the children’s healing journey.

This team of nineteen adults were curious and open to learning about La Casa and the issues we face as we strive to provide care for the children entrusted to us for a season of their lives. They met our neighbors, played with the children and interacted with a lot of our staff. But they also got down to some hard work as they helped lay the foundation for what will be overhead covering for the riding rink to help shield some of the tropical sun as the children ride. They sanded and painted steel poles, dug holes and placed them in position and held them in place with cement mixed by hand. Others sanded and resealed the wooden fence around the riding rink so that it’s protected from the harsh weather for another year. But I am sure most would say that their favorite part was getting to observe the children during their riding lessons, help give a lesson to our youngest and enjoy their last afternoon playing games together.

We loved getting to watch as God connected hearts of those with like interests to serve together to grow His ministry here in El Salvador. Thank you GlobalX Equestrian Team for your love and service!
